Where to get your Marriage license

The Town or City Matters

Your CT marriage license must originate from the town where you are going to be married. That's because the original license will stay in an actual book that lives in that town's vital records room (a weirdly romantic place to be married).

What Towns Offer Same Day Service

At the moment, Hartford and East Hartford are the only towns with walk-in same-day service for anyone. 


New Haven and Bridgeport have same-day walk-in service BUT ONLY FOR NEW HAVEN RESIDENTS.  Non-residents can submit an application online and receive a call to schedule an appointment.


Most small towns have greater availability, either for the same day, or a day or two in advance. Some of my favorites are Hamden, Wallingford, North Haven, Cheshire, and East Haven.
